We began Christmas Around the a world and we began in America. We made star Santa ornaments and put them on our tree.
Last week we made elves to prepare for our fairy tale The Elves and the Shoemaker.
Our hallway is decorated with snowman paintings that can hang out all winter. We will add how to build a snowman writings later. It's still warm here !!
Pics of our snowmen coming tomorrow.

Friday we had some time to do some turkey art ( I LOVE doing art projects with the kids!). Thanks to one of my awesome third grade team for the idea! We outlined a turkey in many different colors with our crayons, cut them out, then painted them with watercolors. The result was some beautiful turkeys! We are going to have these displayed in the hallways with our turkey writing. I still haven't decided if I want to write about turkey facts (would work well as one of our writing portfolio pieces) or a persuasive writing from the turkey's point of view about why we should eat something different for Thanksgiving.
This coming week we are working on time (units of time, and elapsed time...this is a hard one!). Our next story is "Little Grunt and the Big Egg". I am off to the land of the Internet to search for some great ideas for these two units. If you have any to share please leave me a comment or email me at email@example.com. Thanks!!!

1. Read LOTS of books about the moon
2. The students will take home a calendar and a "moon finder" a sheet of paper with a rectangle cut out of the middle. They will track the phases of the moon this month.
3. Watch Bill Nye the Science Guy video about the moon.
4. A great parent and student brought in a model of the moon that lights up to show the phases of the moon...very cool!
5. Color and put the phases of the moon in order.
Any other ideas out there? I am excited to teach about the moon this week. Last week it was the sun and the earth. I need to find a way to show the students the constellations...they were asking about them. I am sure there is a great website out there somewhere...time to get hunting!

I did read a really interesting blog this weekend about using the story The Principal From the Black Lagoon and having the principal come in to be interviewed. She then compared and contrasted the two principals. I think I will tie this in with my lesson on Officer Buckle and our poems about community helpers/ :)I am going to try to fit that in this week between testing. It was a great idea but I can't remember where I saw it at. If you know please leave me a comment so I can give credit. THANKS!

We were going to have another but funds were cut :(
She is GREAT! On her site right now you can find directions on how to earn 5000 bonus points for your classroom. She also posted a letter to send home to the parents, stars to color as your class works towards their goal of an order of $275, and certificates for the students that order. I have used this for several years and it WORKS! Good luck everyone and enjoy spending those points!!
or try this
I am trying to get into the swing of things. Since I have moved from 2nd to 3rd I feel like I am a first year teacher again. Learning the curriculum and the WAY they teach it. I know I will come up with my own way and add my own swagger but for right now I just want to know what my grade level has been doing and what has worked for them.
I am very excited to teach 3rd grade though...everything is fresh and new and exciting!!
I will be making some things to add to my blog soon to share with everyone. I am planning on spending this weekend getting prepared for our first full week with the kids next week. We are diving in with the curriculum.
Hurricane Irene has hit us here in
Thanks! See ya later alligators!

Here are some updated pics of my room. It is still not done but it has come OH SO far from when I moved all the boxes in. I plan on getting some stuff done at home this weekend and maybe heading out to school tomorrow for a few minutes. We have Open House on Tuesday so Monday is the last day I have to get all the finishing touches together. We have a workshop ALL day Wednesday and the kiddos come on Thursday. So that means that lesson plans need to be ready and in place by Tuesday before they get there otherwise I will be scrambling at the last minute. OH WOW! I have so much to do.....it may be a few days before I am back so have a good weekend and week!

Holy exhaustion! (A quote from fellow blogger at "Oh the Places We'll Go") I moved ALL my stuff today to my new room. I moved furniture and boxes for 6 hours after our morning meeting at 8 am. So tired I think I will call it an early night!! As you can see from the pictures I still have SO much left to do. I know I'm not the only one out there in bloggy land that has moved classroom and is exhausted. To all of you I give you a high five , at least I would if I could muster the energy to raise my hand! I will post the progress as it comes, inch by inch.
